Letters From Thoth & The New Era Elements
The Priestess (Thoth) Representing the Moon in her higher aspect, this card joins the human to the divine. The Priestess holds the energy of the huntress, the lunar goddess and the initiatrix. Her bow, is a 3 stringed harp, for she hunts by enchantment. She will initiate you into the hidden secrets of the beginning of life. The High Priestess (NEE) Looking within for wisdom, feminine divine, learning to listen to the inner voice, intuition, instincts, that guide us forward. This energy asks us to be still. To go inside ourselves and trust our connection to the divine. This is intuition over intellect - something we often distrust - and when we deny that instinct, we sever ourselves from what the Universe has to offer. This is a powerful energy and a deep magic that will help us bridge our conscious and Higher Self. Trust it and see what you uncover.

Letters From Thoth & The New Era Elements
The Empress (Thoth) The second of the alchemical trumps and represents salt. The Empress sits in Daleth, which means Door. And she is our doorway into this life as well as the doorway to all things that fall under the Empresses rule. She sits in Venus and rejoices in love. Crowley describes her as the "inactive principle of Nature, Salt is matter which must be energized by Sulfur (The Emperor) to maintain the whirling equilibrium of the Universe." The Empress (NEE) This is our creative female principal - she brings the joy of life and physical well being. This is the Earth Momma with great energy and self-confidence. I love this part: Behind her we see a dark doorway - The Empress is not only passage we enter into life - she is also the doorway leading us out of it - The Goddesses can take as well as give. The Mother energy can be very kind and loving but it can also harness Molly Weasley and fuck your shit up if you mess with what she loves. A day ruled by the Empress is sure to hold a lot of love and creation, compassion and peace. Be courageous and let the love of the Universe flow through you and nourish you. This is an unconditional love where we can be who we are and not have to pretend to be anything else in the hopes that someone will love us. You are perfect as you are and The Empress will give you the passion and confidence to be authentically you. Letters From Thoth & The New Era Elements
The Emperor (Thoth) Here we have Aries, with Mars ruling and Sol exalted. As Crowley says, "The sign is thus a combination of energy in its most material form with the idea of authority." This is the 3rd Alchemical trump and represents Sulfur - the male fiery energy of the Universe - this is a swift creative energy, the initiative of all Being. If you want a bit more of the alchemy - the red eagle on his shield identifies the red tincture, symbolic of the fiery action and nature of the Sun and gold. Whereas the Empress has a white eagle - the white tincture, symbolic of action and nature of the Moon and silver. Alchemically you need to find the white then the red and unite them to accomplish the Great Work. Suggesting that the Empress and her Emperor get along in a quite cozy manner indeed - which can be seen in Art. The Emperor (NEE) This is a card of structure, order and reason. This is a strong energy that provides responsibility and protection to those who need it. While The Empress is all about the mother love, the Emperor is more about doing what needs to be done no matter who might get hurt in the process. This is all about Aries in Mars and that is some powerful yet aggressive stuff. Leadership good. Tyranny not so much. Fine line to walk. My Aries self does like this card, for it brings a strong and powerful energy to whatever it is you are trying to accomplish. But it also has a darker side, in that - good leadership is protective and has a sense of commitment to those under protection. It isn't selfish or tyrannical in nature. Let the positive energy of this card shine, like the Sun its under and trust that you will use it wisely! Letters From Thoth & The New Era Elements
Death (Thoth) This is probably my all time favorite Death card because he just looks so happy with his job. He is dancing and reaping and stirring up the bubble of new life from seemingly dead sediment. From The Book of Thoth: The Universe is Change; every Change is the effect of an Act of Love; all Acts of Love contain Pure Joy. Die Daily! There is a lot of alchemy in Death but the most important part is that without the putrefaction, there is no continuation of life. Death (NEE) Transformations into a new state of being - letting go of things that no longer serve us well. I like the art on this one, a skull, the reminder of our own mortality. The poppies - growing and vibrant to remind us that there is life after death. That we shouldn't be afraid to let go of what we hold on to so tightly now. Something new awaits. Always the song, Don't Fear The Reaper, when I get this card. Valentine is done Here but now they're gone Romeo and Juliet Are together in eternity, Romeo and Juliet Don't be afraid to let go of whatever it is you are holding so tightly too. The things that are meant to happen will happen no matter what you do. The harder you hold on the more painful it will be to transition into a new phase. And we must move forward - we cannot stagnate. Instead of fear, look at it as the next big adventure, "We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper" Letters From Thoth & The New Era Elements
9 of Cups (Thoth) There is a whole lot of happy in this card and it shows with how Lady Harris designed it. Streams of water flowing from fat lotus flowers and is has a very voluptuous feel to it. Jupiter in Pisces is very happy to be right where it is, Pisces a mutable sign of water is sitting in Yesod, sphere of the Moon and Yesod is also the Foundation that stabilizes the Tree of Life. Jupiter is sitting pretty and also has an affinity to water via Chesed, which Crowley says, "represents Water in its highest material manifestation." 9 of Water (NEE) Happy Dolphins rising up from the depths to swim in the sun - content and at ease. Now is a time of joy and the feeling of being exactly where you are supposed to be. At one with everything and optimistic about the future. This card makes me think of Jasper from The Simpsons when he freezes himself in Apu's freezer and "thaws out," to find Moon Pies and says, "what a time to be alive." (I can find a Simpsons moment for just about any occasion LOL) But this is a great time to be alive. Everything has lined up and is balanced perfectly. This "perfection," is actually around us daily, but we often forget to see it when we are knee deep in chaos. Enjoy this time and be open to the beauty and perfection around you daily. Or maybe go get a Moon Pie ;) Letters From Thoth & The New Era Elements
I have to admit, I never really "got" this card - too many meanings and they never really clicked - but I am liking the Thoth version although I am still learning all the many meanings Crowley put into this card. The Hanged Man (Thoth) I like that Crowley says the idea of sacrifice for this card is very outdated and of the old Aeon - this new Aeon we are in does not call for that. He says that it is actually counterproductive and we should be looking for the annihilation of the self in the Beloved - the devotional ecstasy that dissolves all sense of separateness - to bring enlightenment to the unenlightened. The Hanged Man (NEE) This is a card of looking within and tends to pop up when we are in a crisis of some sort. We may feel helpless or lost, exposed. It's a time of hanging out and looking at our habits and points of view and seeing them from a new perspective. We need to take this time to face whatever is haunting us and get unstuck from the emotional struggles. This is a time to pause and look at where we are and what we are thinking and doing. When we get stuck it sometimes helps to just stop and look at things from a different perspective. In this way we can learn and integrate new things into our lives and not stagnate with the same old same old. Don't struggle against it... just be. Step by step we learn and grow. The Magus (Thoth) The first of the alchemical trump cards, this card represents action in all forms and phases. His tools: With the Wand createth He. With the Cup preserveth he. With the Dagger destroyeth He. With the Coin redeemeth He. (BOT) The Magus (NEE) This card is all about our will, control and shaping our universe at the start of our quest, by taking control of our environment. I love this art - a pitchman who can communicate and persuade - and the products around him represent the 4 elements. This also alludes to the trickster side of the Magus - the one that only has illusions for us with no reality behind them. The Magus is all about focusing your will, deciding what you want, grabbing the elements and making it happen. The intent you put into your creation is what will shape it so be sure you truly know what you want! Letters From Thoth & The New Era Elements
Prince of Cups Air of Water - Active air in passive water - can make this a uneasy combo. That air wants to bubble up and away no matter what gets in its way. Crowley describes it as, "completely without conscience in the ordinary sense of the word and is therefore usually distrusted by his neighbors." Just looking at the card you can see this type of energy is going to come straight at you with all power of the wind and sea - so hold on to your hats and hearts. Son of Water Sensitive, emotional, someone who will follow the inspirations that come to them and will always follow their heart. Dreamers - which can be a great thing! But not if you get lost in fantasy along the way. This card reminds us that we shape our realities and we need to stay clear and rational while doing so. There is so much strength and potential here and we must be focused on what we want to create. When we want something enough, all our hopes and dreams and emotions charge that need and send it out into the Universe. Stay positive and grounded! Letters From Thoth & The New Era Elements
7 of Swords (Thoth) Just looking at the card you can see the somewhat fractured background on top of which are 6 small swords with planet symbols on the hilts and one kind of broken middle sword with the Sun. This is like a planetary battle in our heads - where we just have too much going on and are getting confused and upset. I like what Crowley says, "It is like a rheumatic boxer trying to come back after being out of the ring for years." Maybe an uphill battle? 7 of Air (NEE) As Gollum would say, this one is tricksy - but not hobbitses ;) The art shows a cuckoo chick sitting in an adopted nest being fed by mom, not its mom. The parents are tricked into feeding a strangers bird and not their own chicks. This reminds us that illusions can get in the way of rational thinking and we can be deceived if we aren't careful. On a day like this we need to remember things go pear shaped and it's best not to fight against it but to keep a sense of humor and know it won't last. Take things one at a time and try not to get frazzled - try to keep your thoughts clear so you can see what is really the issue and what may be just an illusion. 6 of Disks (Thoth) Moon is in Taurus and very happy to be there - this card represents consciousness in its most harmonized and balanced form. In this earthy and material suit, 6 (Tiphareth) lends its stable influence to practical ends. This card also brings a lucky touch to those around it as well. 6 of Earth (NEE) This type of success is all about a team effort by achieving harmony with those around us. By overcoming the often steep odds we can reach new heights of success. This is a time to ask for help if you need it - put your wishes out there with positive energy and optimism! This card brings us the balance we need to deal with the day to day in a practical and relaxed way. We know we have things covered and we can see what we need to do and how to do it. This is also a great time to give thanks for the bounty in our lives. |
