The Vice Versa Tarot Deck
I spent literally all of yesterday studying this deck and I love it. The cards are based on the RWS images but they add so much more to them. One side shows the usual scene but when you flip it over it shows a second scene, not a dark or reverse side, just a different aspect of the original scene. I quite like the art, which is well balanced with symbols and colors and people. Adding the flip side really does open up readings and gives me a lot more to look at and think about. Another thing I love is that the Major cards actually show symbols and items from other cards that come before them or sit above/below them when they are set into 3 rows of 7 cards. (see below and please ignore my desk mess, I was too excited to tidy up) The Court cards are slightly different in that instead of showing 2 sides or aspects, it shows the Outer Self and Inner Self, again not reversals or dark and light, just a different aspect which I absolutely love. I have been thinking about how awesome it would be for someone to create a virtual reality type of app for the Tarot deck, one that you could actually STEP INTO and walk around in, explore the various bits of the cards, and while this deck isn't in VR, it does give that feeling of seeing more that is there. There was another deck, similar to this one, The After Tarot Kit, which shows action that may have happened AFTER the front side image, but that one didn't feel as "at home," as this one did. I will probably still get that one since *HELLO, CARD COLLECTOR* but I am already loving how the Vice Versa Deck feels in my hands.

Tarot Card of the Day
Osho Zen Tarot 9 - Aloneness ** 🌱 ** There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. Lonely can be hard because you are missing some other person, an absence. But being alone you are actually with yourself. *💟 ** Don't view that alone time in a negative way. Be your own light and develop the capacity to be on your own, be your own guide. 🕯🕯🕯 ** ** The second photo is a close up showing a light emanating from within 💡🕯 * There can be such freedom in solitude!💗🌼✌ ** * #oshozentarotcards #aloneness #dailytarotcard#tarotcardoftheday#tarotreadersofinstagram #tarotcards#readingthetarot #mindfulness#beherenow #beingmindful#beyourownlight #solitude #loveyourself#selflove #freedominsolitude Tarot & Oracle Card of the Day
7 of Pentacles / Tarantula 🕷🌱 ** * Well. Those 2 work so well together and helped me clarify a matter that has been lurking. ** * 7 of pentacles: assessment. Taking time to evaluate and reflect on what we are doing or why. A pause for a moment to see if what you are doing is working or not. ** * Taratula: Fire energy. 🔥 Represents a moment when a decision needs to be made. Prioritizing your purpose. Not getting side tracked from your dharma. If you are not on goal, the things you do will only bring fleeting satisfaction. When you follow your path, then you find true happiness. 🌈 * When tarantula energy is balanced you are following your intuition. When out of balance, there is hesitation and over thinking. To help balance, daily journaling. ** * Which does indeed work. It helps me see my thought processes much easier when I get it all out of my head. 📒✒ ** * #dailytarotcard #dailytarot#tarotreadersofinstagram #tarotcard#tarotcardoftheday #oraclecards#wildunknownanimalspirit#tarotofthemagicalforest #animalguides#animalspirits #followingdharma#beherenow #taketimeforyourself#takeamoment #findyourpurpose#mindfulness #7ofpentacles #taranula#tarottracker Tarot Oracle Card of the Day
** * Mouse - earth energy 🐁🐀 ** Today was just weird. Work is busy busy and I really wasn't paying attention to my thoughts while I shuffled my deck and drew Mouse. ** * At first it didnt really seem to fit what was in my head and it wasnt until I got home that I realized it totally nailed my day! ** * Mouse energy is detail-oriented to the point of being nit picky. Details details to the point of not realizing you cannot control everything. * I was trying to get one thing done and getting frustrated that I couldnt. Instead of just doing something else I struggled with it. 🤔 ** * When Mouse energy abounds you need to look at what youre doing and decide if it is where you need to be concentrating. ** Mouse unbalanced is busy with no purpose. Totally me today. To balance, find a meaningful project. ** ** Lesson in mindfulness learned 😊🐁🌷 ** #tarotcards #tarotcard #tarotcardoftheday#dailytarotcard #dailytarot#tarotreadersofinstagram#wildunknownanimalspirit #mouseenergy#animalguides #animalspirits #oraclecards#staybalanced #beherenow #bemindful#stayfocused Tarot/Oracle Draw of the Day

But out of balance gets jaded or pouty To keep that balance have an adventure. Do some art. Create! 🎨 ** ** Temperance is helping me to stay balanced. Maintain equilibrium. Knight of Pentacles/Spider ** 🐎🕷🕸 ** Today my focus was on how can I attack the many things I need to do at work today. ** ** Knight of Pentacles - stuffy workhorse. He does plod along and gets things done but he isnt very playful and tends to be obsessive about details. ** ** Spider! Earth spider energy totally takes the stuffy right out of the Knight! Spider energy creates and weaves. Reminds us to be creative. Be process oriented not so much results oriented and your "work," will become a lovely tapestry. 🕸🕸🕸 ** ** So, the Knight gives me the ground to stand firm and the will to get things done. Spider adds the humor and creativity ** To keep Spider balanced? Playful creativity! Perfect for getting my projects done!!🌸😊✌💋💗 ** ** #tarotreadersofinstagram #tarotcards#tarotcardoftheday #dailytarotcard#dailytarot #tarotofthemagicalforest#wildunknownanimalspirit#knightofpentacles #spiderenergy#oraclecards #animalguides #animaltotem#play #beherenow #becreative#mindfulcreativity #playfulcreativity#tarottracker The Knight of Wands I think of this as the sexy ooh la la knight. Passionate, can be reckless and cocky though. Has a lot of creative energy which is awesome but it needs to be tempered with some self control. Use that energy wisely. This Knight can flit about from thing to thing, never staying for long, loves new and exciting things. Which is good, but balance it. Don't get too flighty and don't get too stale. Find a nice compromise. I recently started using the Wild Unknown Animal Spirit Oracle Cards and I am loving the energy these cards bring. Learning a lot from the various animals and how to stay balance. Today's card is Vulture, air energy. As creepy as we may see vultures, they are actually needed to keep nature purified. I mean, they eat the roadkills and other nasties, keeping them from spreading diseases. Vulture appears when there is something going on that needs to be purified. When balanced this energy clarifies and brings wisdom. When out of balance it can be aggressive. To bring that balance back clean your space - maybe sage, purify! Decks shown from top. Dali's Tarot Universal, The Housewives Tarot, then left to right:
The Italian Tarot, The Haindl, The Wild Unknown, Thoth, RWS Radiant The Tarot of the Magical Forest, Marseille, Shadowscapes, Zen Osho deck, Wildwood and Alice in Wonderland. The next biggest question I get asked is how do I choose which deck to use? Mostly it depends on my mood. I can usually tell which deck is going to be best for any given reading or card of the day because I have worked with them all so much. If I have no real pull to any one deck, I will let my fingers decide. Just holding you hand above each deck and waiting to see if the energy from that deck tickles your hand. It's that chi energy that will speak to you. You can also use a pendulum by holding it above the decks and see what it does. At the beginning of my tarot journey I only had 1 deck and I stuck with it until I felt I had mastered its basic meanings and didn't have to keep looking at the book. My very first deck was a Celtic deck and I liked it but the cards were large and I have small hands so it felt like a battle to use it, so I bought a smaller Rider Waite Smith deck and that is the one I learned on. Also, when I first get a new deck, I may work with just that one for a week or more to get the feel for it and how it interacts with me. It can't hurt to start with one deck and then branch out. Once you get the feel for a deck, how and when you use them starts to come naturally. There really is no one way or right way to choosing or using a deck. Do what feels natural to you! Next up: What decks do I own and what decks to I use vs just like to have in my collection. I have had people ask me about reading cards so I thought I would put it all in one post to make it easier to get to.
I have been studying Tarot for 20 some years now and it never ceases to amaze me on how spot on they can be every day. But first starting out they can be confusing and there seems to be a lot going on with the imagery and meanings. First thing to remember is these cards tell you a story. It can be a simple one card story or an entire layout with 12 cards kind of novel. If you are just starting with your first deck, look at all the cards without looking at the LWB (little white book that comes with the cards) and just note your first impressions with each one. Depending on what deck you are using, there will be various images and a feel to the cards. Above I have several decks showing what today's card is, The 7 of Cups or Chalices. The middle card is from one of the most familiar decks, Rider Waite Smith, the first card is based on that, The Tarot of The Magical Forest and the third card is the Tarot of Marseilles deck, which can be tricky as the Minor Arcana are not illustrated like the RWS decks are. Use your intuition and tell yourself the story that the card seems to be telling you. Then look at the LWBs definition. The books give you a basic overview of the imagery, iconography, historical meanings and they are very useful in giving you a base to learn from. But like in dream reading, follow your heart and what is most meaningful to you. What rings true to one person may not be the same for you. I use the cards to practice mindfulness. I look at the attributes of the cards and ask myself how I can integrate the positive attributes into my day as well as how I can work on the more negative attributes. I read their story and then decide how I can improve where I am right now. The future is fluid and nothing is set in stone. What I read today can change at any point in time and the smallest of changes can move mountains, so I try to keep the positives and rework the negatives. Looking at today's card, 7 of Cups. I tend to use decks based on the RWS decks as I like the imagery. We see 7 cups filled with all sorts of dream-like things. This card can be about wishful thinking, wishing you had "stuff," or even letting your imagination run loose. There is a LOT of stuff in those cups too, so you can almost have too many things going on, too many choices can make it hard to narrow things down. So, a lot of things may need to be pared down and put into some sort of order. Find a nice middle ground of orderly to a little creative chaos. It's always good to find that middle ground to work from. If you are just starting out, reading books can be a huge help in learning more about Tarot cards. Here is a list of some of my favorite books and it can be a good place to jump off from. Clicky for books. I am working on a sort of Tarot FAQ page to answer some of the other questions. If you have any, please feel free to ask!! |
