The Aeon

(Traditionally called Judgment) Crowley felt that Judgment was obsolete for this new Aeon, the Aeon of Horus.  Nuit is again shown but this time in her usual form of arcing over the night sky. Her body is filled with stars and a milk of galaxies - her body forms the omega around a massive egg that holds the image of Horus.

Crowley says of the New Aeon: The time for the birth of an Aeon seems to be indicated by great concentration of political power with improvements in travel and communication. General advance of philosophy and science with a need to consolidate religious thought.

The general meaning of this card is Final decision in respect of the past, new current in respect of the future, always represents the taking of a definite step.  The past echoes into our present and future - every cause has its effect. We need to look at what we have done and accept it - good or bad- and then let it go, forgive ourselves and be ready to move forward into a new Aeon with all we have learned. Make every act count.

The Fool

The Fool holds every trump card within - they all issue forth this 0 card. He creates everything from nothing - The Fool is the nothing we refer to when we say Nothing Created God, Nothing is beyond  God. Nothing is Greater than God.

He is our start, the initiator, ready to start the Great Work - or anything we have been wanting to do but haven't had the courage to do so. This can be a scary time but also an exhilarating one.  This Fool has the energy and the confidence to boost us onward and upward. There is a very important process starting now and we must start this path with open heart and open mind.

Queen of Swords

Water of Air - The person symbolized by this card should be intensely perceptive, a keen observer, a subtle interpreter, and intense individualist. swift and accurate at recording ideas; in action confident, in spirit gracious and just (BOT)

This Queen is a badass - her water gives the air sustaining rain - or a drowning cloudburst. She also has a severed head in her hand, which is actually a good thing here. Swords = Yetzirah, the formative world. This matches the Ruach or intellect which is in our head. The Sword of reason, the Queen has lopped the higher faculties of intellect from our lower animal natures. She has Liberated Our Mind.

Water also gives the swords an emotional balance, sensitive and intelligent. This Queen is perceptive and observant of what is going on around her and brings us independence and confidence

Four of Disks

We have an aerial view of a citadel, surrounded by a moat.  The watchtowers hold the symbols for the elements.  A place to create, a powerhouse. We have a balance and structure here, in the realm of Chesed, which also gives us stability and growth. What we started with the three is now coming to fruition.

We have a nice stability here and we feel good - the hard work we have put in has paid off and we feel a nice security in our success.  Also to note - it is always a good idea to share our success with others and not hoard or let it stagnate. Keep that energy and success, moving forward!

This is an excellent court card to get when you are trying to do all the things!

Prince of Wands

Air of Fire, this is Crowley's idealized image of himself, his personal seal the Mark of the Beast, on his chest. He is also seated in the Thunderbolt asana which was Crowley's favorite yoga posture.

His character is noble and generous. He may be an extravagant boaster, while slyly laughing both at the object of the boast and at himself for making it. His courage is strong and endurance indefatigable. He is always fighting the odds and always wins in the long run. (BOT)

This is the energy you need when you have a lot of challenges to tackle or when you are feeling doubts about your abilities to deal with things.  Stand strong and stay confident!

Two of Disks

Crowley called this card, "the picture of complete manifested Universe, in respect of its dynamics." All of the two's represent the first manifestation of their element (Aces are the seeds)  Disks = earth and earth = the throne of spirit.  It sits in Chokmah, realm of creation and energy - it takes our seed from the Ace and gets it moving.

It also reminds us that everything is in constant change, ever moving to stay balanced. It is a time to stay open and flexible, not letting anything get stagnate.

This card kind of looks like a splitting cell, dividing and getting ready to grow in the material world. All of the elements are symbolised in here - everything we need to get creating.

Ten of Cups

Crowley, in a letter to Lady Harris says, "the background out to look menacing. There is something sinister about this card - it ought to suggest a morbid hunger which springs from surfeit." In other words - perhaps too much goodness - so much so that the cups can't even hold them and it's just all spilling on the floor.  Crowley blames Mars (which is in Pisces for this card) He says, "Mars is the gross, violent and disruptive force which inevitably attacks every supposed perfection."

So, the generic meaning is: Mattered settled: complete good fortune. Permanent and lasting success and happiness - because inspired from above.

Which is a good thing - this card tells us things are in their proper places and that we are finally in harmony with the Universe.  I think Crowley's warning up there tells us not to take this for granted. Also to stay mindful of what is happening in the Now - stay in the moment and don't get ahead of yourself.

Another thing I have noticed is that the cards are all over the map - much like my mood while in isolation. One day is high energy and the next is down and struggling to stay positive.  Here is a high energy card for sure!

Eight of Wands

"Light-wands turned into electrical rays, sustaining or even constituting Matter by their vibrating energy.... This card, therefore, represents energy of high velocity, such as furnishes the master-key to modern mathematical physics." (BOT) Or as Einstein would say: e=mc2

This is some serious fast moving - swift- energy. Anything that needs speed or high-frequency - this is your card. Correspondence-wise, this card is Mercury in Sagittarius - the fire element is stabilized and very happy. The card sits in Hod (home of Mercury) on the Tree of Life and that gives it more of an energy boost. So much energy here even if Hod is low on the Tree.

This is like mainlining a whole lot of caffeine and then cramming for your finals. You are going to get a lot done RIGHTNOW but it isn't going to last. Maintaining this kind of energy for long will cause a serious burn out so use it wisely. Just remember to stay centered and in control and use this energy to get past any obstacles or challenges that stand in your way.

Three of Swords

Lady Harris wrote to Crowley about this card: "Please don't frighten me with the Sword suit. The 3 was a fair horror and great suffering."

Ok so- first of all - the Aces/Two's and Three's all reside above the Abyss on the  Tree of Life, which usually makes them all very happy cards - but at first glance this three does not look happy. That is why we need to go deeper than the first glance. Above the Abyss, "sorrow," isn't like the type of sadness we find below the abyss, that material hurt that guts us. This is more of an abstract feeling because here, the actuality of things don't exist.

Sorrow is really the closest word we can come to this feeling - this higher state of consciousness that is hard to understand where we sit below the abyss. Up here there is no form - this three represents the trace of sorrow that enlightened the Buddha!

This card helps us face the illusions that we surround ourselves with because they can be better than facing reality. But they are false and understanding that will help us understand what is happening and help us to make better decisions.  We need to engage with this hurt not hide from it.  Trust that you have the power to work through this - and will come out stronger for it.

I have found the courts to be visiting me a lot lately. I like to think of them as people coming to keep me company while in covid 19 stay at home orders.

Prince of Disks

Air of Earth, this Prince will blast through any room with, "their great energy brought to bear upon the most solid of practical matters." And his card is full to bursting with all his goods. As Lady Harris said when she painted this one, "he swells and swells and I can't get him in the picture with all the farm produce and bulls you suggest."

This is someone who is in control of their material issues. He is incredibly practical - a handyman or woman, who knows how to get things done in the most practical way. Crowley tells us this prince is," competent, ingenious, thoughtful, cautious, trustworthy, imperturbable; he constantly seeks new uses for common things."
