Letters From the Thoth Tarot
The Devil This has got to be one of my favorite Devil cards - look at all the symbolism in there and that is one happy looking goat. This card tends to get such a bad rap for being "evil," yet all the cards in the deck have the potential for evil just as all the cards have a potential for good, including this one. This one gets to be a "scapegoat," for all the potential evils in the world lurking to get us. Crowley says," this card represents creative energy in its most material form... the goat leaping with lust upon the summits of earth... fiery, material energy of creation... the card represents Pan, the all begetter" Some serious male energy here, you can see that just by looking at the card. Lady Harris was quite explicit in her representation of the male anatomy in this card. At its most basic level this card is about strong impulses, temptation and obsession with our basic instincts and our preoccupation with those things. Needing love, food, sex, and safety are one thing, becoming so obsessed with them is another (as well as denying ourselves these things.) The main thing to remember is that we are in charge and we control our responses to these feelings. Don't get stuck, you are free to choose!

The Throth deck is my favorite deck, and the devil, if done through astrology, is my signifier card. This deck reminds me of a magnificently drawn story. Or stories. I bonded with my Throth deck immediately. I would love to add this to my collection.
