Daily Mindfulness - Thoth Deck
The Devil I think this, along with the Wild Unknown's hot foot devil, is my favorite rendition of this card. I mean, look at this devil - he is one happy goat! He has also been a very misunderstood scapegoat because of the name and the perceived evils that go along with it. Crowley says that this card represents creative energy in its most material form - the fiery, material energy of creation. This is the masculine energy at its most masculine and as Lady Harris has illustrated it, it is pretty obvious in its masculinity. To me, this is a card full of fertility and creative energy. This is not a Devil to be feared - it is life and love and unity all waiting to happen. From the Book of Thoth: The formula of this card is then the complete appreciation of all existing things... all things equally exalt him. He represents the finding of ecstasy in every phenomenon...he transcends all limitations. Blind impulses, ambition, temptation, obsession - the animal instincts we all have and deal with - but there is no reason to shove them aside. We are both light and dark and we need to find the balance between them, not hide the less shadow sides because we are taught they are wrong.
