A lighter respite from some of the heavier cards that have popped up lately. I always think of this one as the "happy party fun card." Three of Cups Now our cups overflow with sensuous pleasure and beauty here. The love we learned to give ourselves and to send out into the world with balance has now found its mark and is starting to bloom. .. . Small warning here though - The pomegranates. Recall the story of Persephone and how she got stuck living in the underworld half the year. Stay balanced so you don't tip over into greed or overabundance, that won't do anything for you. ..

Five of Disks I asked the cards where I should place my focus today and this five came out looking all moody and oppressive. It ruins the balance we had in the four and without that previous structure we get antsy about things. This brings trouble to our material world and anxiety to us as we try to deal with it. .. . The best thing to do is take things one step at a time. Try not to feed the anxiety/stress machine by dealing with the things you can deal with and let go of the things that aren't actually in your way. This way you can find a working solution to the obstacles you face. Daily Mindfulness
Not the most pleasant card but a necessary one for us to work sometimes. Ten of Swords The stabbiest of the stabby cards. I also love what Lady Harris wrote to Crowley about this one, "I have done the 10 of swords and promptly Russia takes up arms." .. . This card is the complete identification with the mind/intellect, and in this ten, is in the process of being destroyed. As Crowley says, "It is the ruin of the Intellect, and even of all mental and moral qualities." .. . The issues we started dealing with in the 9 are now coming to their conclusions. The tens of the suits are the ends of whatever processes we are working with and also for a restart, to return to its origin in the ace to begin again. But this time we have more information, we have learned more about ourselves and what we can do and we need to carry this forward with us as we start again. .. . Rebirth, loss, pain, end of a cycle - these are all powerful and transformative events - they just seem a lot worse in the swords suits because of their airy, cold intellectual nature. This is such a very vital and important card and it is never to be feared! The alchemy that this card brings us is pure magic and invites us to dance! (much like our skeleton friend in the card.) Death The Universe is Change; every Change is the effect of an Act of Love; all Acts of Love contain Pure Joy. Die Daily! Death is the apex of one curve of the snake Life: behold all opposites as necessary complements, and rejoice! (BOT) .. . Death is about putrefaction - and while that sounds absolutely disgusting, it is not. It is a vital part of the Great Work - putrefaction is the chemical changes which develop the final form of life from the Orphic Egg. .. . This Death is nothing to fear - this one is happily stirring up the sea bed, churning up new life. "So also the formula of continued life is death, or putrefaction." Crowley. If we want to continue to grow and thrive, to finish our own Great Work, we need Death. .. . Don't fear the reaper. Daily Mindfulness
She flew out of the deck at me this morning and what a lovely energy to use! I never really connected much with the RWS Empress, but this one, I can relate to perfectly. The Empress On the Tree of Life, The Empress is Daleth - door, and woman is the door to life as we are born. Her planet is Venus and she is the second alchemical trump card, salt. Crowley describes her as the inactive principal of Nature - Salt is matter which must be energized by Sulfur to maintain the equilibrium of the Universe. (sulfur is the Emperor/Aries, ruled by Mars and was the lover of Venus!) .. . The Empress holds a strong feminine power - the power to create and to love. This is a gentle and compassionate power but incredibly strong and enduring. For some reason it reminds of that saying that Moms are supposed to say to naughty kids, "I brought you into this world and I can take you out." And while that is a joke, it is that kind of power she wields. Embrace this creative energy with love and use it to renew and replenish. Daily Mindfulness
The Priestess The Priestess represents the Moon in her higher aspects - that which joins the Human to the Divine. She sits on the Tree of Life middle pillar - the only one that spans the Abyss - linking Kether to Tiphareth - so joins the supernal triad to the rest of the Tree of Life. .. . Crowley states: In this card is the one link between the archetypal and formative worlds. She is clothed only in the luminous veil of light. It is important for high initiation to regard Light not as the perfect manifestation of the Eternal Spirit, but rather as the veil which hides that Spirit. She is light and body of light. She is the truth behind the Veil of Light. She is the soul of light. .. . She is the initiatrix - connected to the lunar goddess - the huntress and to the mysteries of the woman. She links the hidden and mysterious secrets of the beginnings of life. She is the bridge between our conscious and higher selves and works through our subconscious - in dreams and synchronicity. This is a time to go within and listen for these messages and trust your intuition. Daily Mindfulness
This card is so perfect for me today - stop thinking so much and just do the thing. Not everything requires research and intellect - sometimes you just need to stop dithering and get stuff done LOL Also, the horse just really wants to eat. :) Knight of Disks Fire of Earth, this Knight is solid and hardworking. I also love his horse, who seems to be more interested in eating than anything else. But, that is actually a perfect symbol for this card, as the Knight's function is, "entirely confined to the production of food." (BOT) The Earth in this card suppresses the Knights natural fire -keeping him well grounded in the material world. .. . This is the hardworking, nose to the grindstone Knight and he isn't much concerned with matters intellectual. He is practical and reliable and knows that the effort you put in to something comes with a great reward. .. Daily Mindfulness
The Aeon (Traditionally called Judgment) Crowley felt that Judgment was obsolete for this new Aeon. Nuit is again shown but this time in her usual form of arcing over the night sky. Her body is filled with stars and a milk of galaxies - her body forms the omega around a massive egg that holds the image of Horus. .. . The general meaning of this card is "Final decision in respect of the past, new current in respect of the future, always represents the taking of a definite step." The past echoes into our present and future - every cause has its effect. We need to look at what we have done and accept it - good or bad- and then let it go, forgive ourselves and be ready to move forward into a new Aeon with all we have learned. Make every act count. . In need of balancing things in life? This is the perfect teacher. Adjustment Adjustment is in absolute balance, standing on tiptoe on the point of her sword. Suspended from her crown is a set of scales, with the left scale holding the alpha and the right scale holding the omega. Crowley calls Adjustment, "the feminine complement of the Fool." .. . Justice, the act of adjustment, suspension of all action pending decision. The card, once called Justice has been updated to adjustment because that is what is needed for us to maintain our balance. We need to constantly assess where we are and what we are doing to see if we are still moving forward on the correct path. This keeps us open to learning new things and expanding into territory we might not have known existed. Daily Mindfulness
Badass Princess cutting through all the cloudy thinking and stabby thoughts! One of my favorite cards! Princess of Swords Earth of Air, this Princess looks like she is flying out of the earth into the sky, leaving her dust behind. Her character is stern and revengeful. Her logic is destructive. She is firm and aggressive, with great practical wisdom and subtlety in material things. She is a warrior princess who is here to help us battle the Ruach. .. . Swords = Ruach (intellect) and it can be a good thing in that we rise above our lower animal natures. BUT! When we identify with the Ruach we separate from our higher parts, higher consciousness - those the Ruach can't comprehend and it wants us to stay with it. So this Princess helps us remember that the mind can be an enemy if we aren't aware of what it is up to. |
