A Walk Through the Thoth Tarot
Five of Cups Yuck. The heavy skies and wavy water from the four has just turned nasty now. The formula for this card, at first glance, seems to be a happy one. Mars in Scorpio is very glad to be there and this card sits in Geburah, home of Mars. But, Mars is too too happy to be here - and gets a wee to excited, freaking Scorpio out. Instead of a slow, getting to know you relationship, it's all over in a blast. Disappointment in love, loss of friendship - loss in those things from which pleasure is expected. We thought we had one thing but come to find we have another. This might hurt a bit but it is better to learn it now instead of fooling ourselves. Let's also look at our expectations - usually these can be set too high and we end up disappointed when nothing works the way we wanted it to work. That isn't to say we shouldn't have expectations - it's more that we need to stay grounded in reality and hope that things will work out for the best.

A Walk Through the Thoth Tarot
Four of Cups This card has a heavy feel to it after the lightness of the three. The sky is darker and the sea is restless while the cups are just overflowing and slowly sinking lower. Also, the wilted lotus at the top, which is pouring out the water just looks sad and about to run out of its supply. The four is like the Demiurge, its self absorbed and arrogant. It thinks it's Luxury is the Cup of all Cups and it isn't. A stationary period in happiness, which may or may not continue. You have reached a zenith here, what you really wanted you gained and now everything is sort of comfortable? Boring? Too much? Not exciting the way it used to be. With all the emotions flooding over it might be hard to breathe at the moment. This is when you need to be thankful for the love and blessings you do have. Don't take this for granted or think it will always be there because you never know. Celebrate the love you do have while you have it! A Walk Through the Thoth Tarot
Three of Cups Crowley says, "Mercury is the Will or Word of the All-Father. Here its influence descends upon the most receptive of the Signs" Our cups overfloweth with sensuous pleasure and beauty here. The love we learned to give ourselves and to send out into the world with balance has now found its mark and is starting to bloom. Small warning here though - The pomegranates. Recall the story of Persephone and how she got stuck living in the underworld half the year. Stay balanced so you don't tip over into greed or overabundance, that won't do anything for you. Two of Cups The first manifestation of the water element and water in its best/highest form. A gorgeous card too. It sits in Chokmah on the Tree of Life and that is expressive of Will. Crowley says, "This card might really be renamed the Lord of Love under Will for that is its full and true meaning. It shows the harmony of the male and female. It is perfect and placid harmony, radiating an intensity of joy and ecstasy. This card expresses duality, where the Ace was unity, the Two shows us unity in difference - it needs something besides itself to focus on. With the Ace we learn to open our hearts and love ourselves - with the Two, we can then share that love and letting it flow constantly - never let it stagnate. What you send out in joy will continue to grow and bless you. A Walk Through the Thoth Tarot
The aces represent the roots of the four elements. They are distinct from the other small cards and there is no real manifestation of the element in its material form. They form a link between the small cards and the Princess. The Aces are not the elements themselves but the seeds of those elements. Ace of Cups "This card represents the element of Water in its most secret and original form. It is the feminine complement of the Ace of Wands, and is derived from the Yoni and the Moon exactly as that is from the Lingam and the Sun. (BOT) Water and waves burst up and outward, radiating light bursts and love, energy, creativity and beginnings. This is a time to open your heart, your emotions, to get you started on your way. Ten of Wands Yuck. This just looks unpleasant. Saturn (the 2 heavy bars) are crushing the light energy wands (Sagittarius) and this card sits way down in Malkuth. This card explodes with energy but it has absolutely no where to go. Crowley says, "Malkuth depends from the other nine Sephiroth, but is not directly in communication with them. It is become a blind Force; so, the most violent form of that particular energy, without any modifying influences.... This is fire in its most destructive aspect." This is Will which has not understood anything beyond its dull purpose, its lust of result, and will devour itself in the conflagrations it has evoked. (BOT) This is a time to really stay open, communicate clearly and make sure you know exactly what you want to be doing. State your intentions clearly. If something is blocking you, take it step by step to figure out what is happening and how you can focus your Will to getting past it. Don't get angry or aggressive here - that is important - take a deep breath, this won't last long but you need to give yourself focus and stay balanced! A Walk Through the Thoth Tarot
Nine of Wands "Here the Moon, the weakest of the planets, is in Sagittarius, the most elusive of the Signs; yet it dares call itself Strength." (BOT) And it can be called Strength because it sits in Yesod on the Tree of Life. Yesod is the sphere of the Moon and its also the Foundation - the seat of the great crystallization of Energy. Crowley tells us, "the Nine represents always the fullest development of the Force in its relation with the Forces above it." This strength relies on its ability to change constantly. "Defense, to be effective, must be mobile." (BOT) Tremendous and steady force that cannot be shaken. Victory, preceded by apprehension and fear. This is when we might have to dig deep and stay strong - trust in yourself and know you have what it takes to get things done. Be willing to adapt, improvise and overcome whatever heads your way and stay balanced and centered. Never doubt yourself. A Walk Through the Thoth Tarot
Eight of Wands "Light-wands turned into electrical rays, sustaining or even constituting Matter by their vibrating energy.... This card, therefore, represents energy of high velocity, such as furnishes the master-key to modern mathematical physics." (BOT) Or as Einstein would say: e=mc2 This is some serious fast moving - swift- energy. Anything that needs speed or high-frequency - this is your card. Correspondence-wise, this card is Mercury in Sagittarius - the fire element is stabilized and very happy. The card sits in Hod (home of Mercury) on the Tree of Life and that gives it more of an energy boost. So much energy here even if Hod is low on the Tree. This is like mainlining a whole lot of caffeine and then cramming for your finals. You are going to get a lot done RIGHTNOW but it isn't going to last. Maintaining this kind of energy for long will cause a serious burn out so use it wisely. Just remember to stay centered and in control and use this energy to get past any obstacles or challenges that stand in your way. |
