Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Seven of Wands The seven looks very much like the six, but with a heavy looking club-like wand blocking the other six, as if saying you can't use this energy - it's too weak and degenerating to be useful. You can still use it but it's no longer organized - it's turned into a free for all with confusion and wild blows. Kind of a waste in time and energy. As Crowley puts it, "the army has been thrown into disorder, if victory is to be won, it will be by dint of individual valor." Individual valor. This is a time when you need to dig into your personal reserve of strength and courage. Mindfulness and a increased presence will help you stay focused on what needs to be done. Stress or tension will not really help here as you can achieve more when you stop wearing yourself out. Follow your heart and your beliefs and remember to believe in yourself.

Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Princess of Wands Look at the fiery and passionate energy that flows from this card. Powerful stuff and a force to be reckoned with no matter what she is doing. Crowley says, "she may be said to represent the dance of the virgin priestess of the Lords of Fire." Earth of Fire, she is the fuel for that fire. Energetic, self-assured and maybe a tad bit "dangerous," to be around, this Princess gives us the strength and courage and freedom to be as confident and determined as she is. On the flip side, when ill dignified, she has the ability to set herself and anyone around her on fire - so stay balanced and use the flames for the creation of some fabulous magic! Queen of Cups In the Book of Thoth is says, "Her image is of extreme purity and beauty, with infinite subtlety; to see the Truth of her is hardly possible, for she reflects the nature of the observer in great perfection." The great Mother Goddess, water of water - reflection of reflection. This Queen is so popular and friendly because she shows us, ourselves, when we look at her. Weird connection, but in the old TV show Babylon 5, there was a character named Kosh, a Vorlon, who no one had ever seen because he was always in a special suit - but one day he did leave it and anyone who looked at him saw what they believed was an Angel, in their own belief system. That reminds me of this Queen. (and shows that yes, I am a huge nerd, you knew this) According to Crowley she is, "the perfect agent, patient, able to receive and transmit everything without being affected herself." She is imaginative, kind, dreamy and good natured. On a day this energy comes to us, we should take the time to reflect on the qualities she embodies: love, emotions, beauty and compassion. Before we can reflect these qualities outward, we need to give ourselves permission to accept and love ourselves. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Six of Cups This must be a very 6 of Cups kind of day, since I also drew the same card with my RSW deck. So then, a day of Pleasure! Located right in the middle of the Tree of Life and a direct reflection of the Ace, this is a balanced and joyful card - as Crowley says, "this pleasure must be understood in its highest sense; well being, harmony of natural forces without effort. " The sea (emotions) here are calm waves and the lotuses look like they are swaying happily and water pours into the cups from them. Now we have moved past the disappointment of the 5, we learn from our disappointments - take those lessons forward and begin to understand the pleasures of harmony and being in balance. Step into pleasure, the love and emotional connecting that is there for all of us if we are willing to join that river of life. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Prince of Wands This card is Crowley's idealized image of himself. It has his Mark of the Beast on the chest of the Prince and he is seated in Crowley's favorite yogic posture, the Thunderbolt asana. And because Crowley identified so strongly with this card he has a lot to say about its symbolism: Often violent in expressions of opinion but he doesn't necessarily hold the opinion he is so emphatic about. He is very noble and generous and can be an extravagant boaster. Strong in courage and indefatigable endurance - he is always fighting against the odds and always wins in the long (long) run. There is so much energy crackling off this card and a day with the wands in it is a grab hold and get things done sort of time. This Prince can be likened to Julius Caesar, John Dee, Jacqueline Kennedy or Nelson Mandela. Charismatic, strong willed, full of life and a generous heart. Grab the confidence of this card and stand strong in your own power - you have no limits and this boundless energy is always there for you to work with. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Adjustment "Balance against each thought its exact Opposite! For the Marriage of these is the Annihilation of Illusion." (BOT) This is a card of perfect balance and her scales hold the Alpha and Omega - the shape created from the lines of her toes to the scales then up to her crown is called a vesica, in mystic geometry this measures the immeasurable. Crowley calls this card the Feminine complement of The Fool. He also mentions in a letter to Harris, that the balance needs to be dynamic and not static - filled with a passion - existence is pure joy! I love that what is called for is a dynamic passion in balancing things - we need to be constantly aware of the energy around us - is it moving and growing or is it stuck and stagnating? This constant assessment keeps us balanced and in harmony. Are we doing good or are we causing harm? Are we in a positive state of mind or are we living with outdated habits? These constant adjustments keep us where we need to be, moving forward and not sinking into stagnation. I love the idea that we can use Adjustments sword to cut away the things that are no longer relevant or helpful. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Ace of Cups I love the art on this Ace - it just radiates energy outward, As the Book of Thoth says, "this card represents the element of Water in its most sacred and original form." Everything you need is in your cup. The full potential of your spiritual and emotional life is there, practically overflowing! This Ace represents the beginnings of a loving and emotional, creative time. It can be romantic or simply a very strong friendship or business opportunity, but you will be tied to it deeply and emotionally. This is a heartfelt desire from deep within us. Something new is waking us up and it is a very powerful driving force that will urge us on the path we are walking. Higher forces are knocking at the door - so stay connected and see where it takes you. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Ten of Swords The ultimate stabby card. BUT! This is a stabby of our own doing. Undisciplined and warring forces, complete disruption. This is when we start sowing discord in our minds by thinking in a negative and disruptive manner. Just looking at that card shows how pointy and sharp those thoughts are. The background is mental static and some of the swords are broken. Harris says, "I have done the 10 of swords and promptly Russia takes up arms" It is that powerful. Crowley says, "it is the ruin of the Intellect and even of all mental and moral qualities." We create our world - a quote from the movie What Dreams May Come is apt here, "That which you believe becomes your world." If you focus solely on the bad things then those things are going to flock to you. Learn to catch the dark, judgemental and negative thoughts when they first arise and ask yourself why you are thinking this way? Is there something you need to see or learn? Once you get the hang of seeing stabby thoughts form, you can cut them off quickly and reform them into something positive you can work with. #lettersfromthoth #lettersfromthethothtarot #learningthethothdeck #bookofthoth #crowleythothtarot #ladyfriedaharris #thothtarotdeck #voynich #dailytarotcard #tarotcardoftheday #thothtarot #10ofswords #tenofswords #stabbycard #wecreateourworld #disciplineyourthoughts #catchthedarkthoughts Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Princess of Swords This card reminds me of Arya Stark (yes, I have GOTs on the brain, it's Sunday) Crowley describes this card in the BOT as, "stern and revengeful - she is firm and aggressive with great practical wisdom, showing cleverness and dexterity in the management of practical affairs." She is the warrior princess, think Artemis or a Valkyrie. Forceful and very determined to cut through all the unnecessary crap to get to the heart of the matter. She also has incredibly high moral standards and can be objective - looking at the entire situation before reacting. This is a great energy to focus on when you need to get things done. The Hermit Wander alone; bearing the Light and thy Staff! And be the Light so bright that no man seeth thee! Be not moved by aught without or within; keep Silence in all ways. (BOT) This Thoth/Mercury headed Hermit stands in a fertile field of wheat carrying the lamp of the Sun and is dogged (no pun intended, well ok maybe) by Cerberus - whom Mercury tamed with cakes while on his mission to get Persephone back. The Hermit is intent on the Orphic Egg - an alchemical symbol, an allegory of The Great Work. Crowley says, "In this Trump is shewn the entire mystery of Life in its most secret workings." And that is a lot to ponder - and the best way to do so is in seclusion. Meditation, going inward for self-awareness. Illumination from within. A day with the Hermit is a day to travel deep into our soul and to connect with the Divine inside us. What we then bring back with us, we can try to share with others. Magical discoveries of the Universe await! |
