This little munchkin is growing way too fast for me - her squeaky little mews are now sounding like a grown up meow. Nooooooooooooo slow down!
She started her last round of ringworm medication today - it's just a precaution - she tested negative but if there are any spores left - we don't want them re-infecting her. I give her a fun daily play, usually in the tub - but last night I tried sitting in her bounce house - tight fit but she enjoyed it. I think I probably enjoyed it more though. I love snuzzling her soft fur and seeing her bloom with health and happiness. Anyone who decides to dump a kitten has a special level in Dante's Hell waiting for them. Barley Poppet Update
🐈🎃🌞 Don't let that grumple face fool you - she's very happy today! Hard work paid off. Her first ringworm retest was negative! Cats need two consecutive negatives to be considered clear so I do have to continue the meds and baths until next week but I can snuzzle her properly now! . She is growing like a weed and loves to chase bouncy balls, hoodie strings and paper towel rolls. She let me cut her nails and loves to crawl in my lap to purr. And if you watch her eyes you can see she's trying to figure out how to escape her bounce house 🤣 . #barleycat #rescuekitten #rescuekittens #playfulkitten #irescuedmybestfriend #feralkitten #sweetkitty #catsofinstagram #kittenupdate #mysweetkitten I have been meaning to blog about her for awhile but when you have just rescued a most adorable feral kitten, time gets away from you in leaps and bounds!
Barley's story: On the night of October 6 I was woken up with cat crying - loud cat crying. I figured it was one of the ferals the neighbor next door feeds and didn't think much of it. But I kept hearing it during the next day so I went out to investigate and a very small kitten darted past me as I was looking for it. My heart broke. For the next few days my neighbor and I tried everything we could to find and catch her and also to be sure she was abandoned and that her Mom wasn't around somewhere. But we knew she was alone in our hearts - kittens don't cry like that when there is a Mom around. With cold weather coming I knew I had to get her so I bought a catch and release trap, filled it with cat food and hoped with all my heart she would get it and not the ferals or racoons. I watched a bird cam for 5 hours until she showed up - held my breathe and cheered loudly when she took the bait and walked into the trap! Having nothing to actually house a small, feral and very scared kitty, we dashed to Petco to get a small crate and bedding and the tiniest litter box I have ever seen. The last photo up there is Barley the first night inside. I got her to the vet and she was properly looked over. Healthy heart, lungs and tummy but she did have ringworm so I had to keep her away from everything which, let me tell you, is HARD. She ate like a champ and it took about a week for her to really trust that she was safe here. She has had a few ringworm baths which I am sure I ended up more wet than she did. She had her recheck last night and I am waiting to hear the results. It is so hard to have her segregated because over the past few days she has blossomed with love and trust. She purrs so hard she rumbles and she gives out the sweetest squeaky mews now. The photos above are in order of newest to oldest and you can see how much healthier she looks. The ringworm on her nose is gone and its all pink now. The vet said she had new hair growth as well. She was estimated at 6 weeks and was 1.60 pounds on her first vet visit. She is now 2.63 pounds and doing so wonderfully! I got her a kitten playpen so she had some running room (there is no one room she can be kept in so its in the kitchen) and I do some serious cleaning daily. I take her into the bathroom and dress is long sleeves and gloves so we can play a bit and I can comb her - she loves the loves. She has a most wonderful and sweet personality and I cannot wait to get her out of that bounce house and into a bigger room. Barley got her name because I sent a very dark webcam photo and asked if they could see her in it. The reply was supposed to be "barely," but the misspelled Barley ended up being perfect! She was barely there! Everyone at her vet thanked me for doing this - for saving her life and keeping her. Just look at that face... how could I not? Did we all Rabbit Rabbit this morning? Good Good.

(No pressure dream!)
What was frustrating was that I could almost remember - it was right there, but I couldn't grab it. After thinking on it when I woke up, I pulled some cards and they were pretty spot on as usual. Card One I asked: Who Am I? Star - The return of hope and healing Card Two I asked: Why Am I Here? Knight of Cups Journey beyond the known to find my destiny (well that is sort of right on the money LOL) Also a quest for emotional connection and that there is a danger in not pursuing my dreams - mkay then LOL Card Three I asked: What did I forget? Six of Swords I need to leave behind the known and journey far away - there is no guarantee that what comes next will be any better or have greater promise but to have hope. (Star) I also love how that card is facing back to the first two cards - as if pointing me in the direction of what I need to remember. Moving past the known - be brave and have hope - journey into the unknown - there are greater benefits in moving forward than staying stuck. Can't argue with that. Books Read August
A Record! 23 Books - Most read prior to that was 20! Woot Of course that means I wasn't doing much else LOL August/Summer heat always makes me very seasonally depressed so books help counter that. I spent hours cutting and pruning a bush tree thing back because stray cats would sit under it and I'm trying to attract birds. Anyway, so I chopped the tree bush back and an hour later went out to water and saw Photo 1.
The Cat was sitting there with this look like *the hell you do to my bush woman?* I snorted with laughter and figured he'd run off like the other strays but no! He meowrled at me then attached himself to my leg. Then he presented his belly! I now have a new friend 😊🐈 He was under my window this morning. Very sweet kitty. I told him not to eat the yard birbs. I think we have an agreement now 🙂 While out there a hummingbird strafed my head and a Black Phoebe sat 5 feet from me just looking around. So lovely the nature! Made me feel like Snow White while she sings to all the animals lol |
