Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Queen of Wands Yes! When my card makes an appearance I always perk up. Strong and fiery with so much energy it flames off the card. There is an almost endless power here - assertive and vibrant - so get in touch with your creative and sensual sides. You know what you want and you know how to get it. This is not a wishy washy energy here - this is someone that will tell you exactly what needs to happen and won't pull any punches - but they are also compassionate and understanding. A perfect balance! She knows what she's got and she knows how to use it.

Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Princess of Cups From The Book of Thoth, "The character of the Princess is infinitely gracious. All sweetness, all voluptuousness, gentleness, kindness, and tenderness are in her character. She lives in the world of Romance, in the perpetual dream of rapture." And that is a good summary of this card. While she is dreamy, she isn't JUST dreams - Earth of Water, this Princess grounds vaporous ideas and can manifest them with her fertile mix of water nourished life. This energy is light hearted, understanding, uplifting and serious - regarding emotions and the unconscious thoughtfully as well as playfully. Imaginative, dreamy, courageous and kind. Trust your intuition and let your emotions flow with grace. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Seven of Cups Too much of a good thing... or a bad thing... is going to look like this card. Book of Thoth: "This is one of the worst ideas that one can have; its mode is poison, its goal madness. ...it represents sinking into the mire of false pleasure." We need to filter out which dreams and fears, pleasures and temptations, are important and which are not. Let the unimportant ones, the ones that we might be addicted to, drain away otherwise your cups get too full and overflow, wasting emotions and energy. We can end up surrounded by so much "stuff," that we often can't figure out what we want so we need to figure out what works and what doesn't while walking a firm ethical path. Six of Disks This card reminds me of the Gold Stars we used to get in school for doing good things. It kind of looks like a badge of honor. Well balanced and confident. The Book of Thoth says, "It represents consciousness in its most harmonized form; definitely in form, not only in idea, as in the case of the Two. In other words, the Son is an interpretation of the Father in terms of the mind." Tiphareth (6) in this earthy and material suit, gives it its stable influence toward the practical things. Things to remember when working with this card: The value of the self is greatest when as many as possible benefit from it. When we have a strong inner balance and understand the joys of giving, our material successes will multiply - kind of like "you have only what you give away." The energy of sharing and giving will continue to keep moving - so don't let it sit and stagnate. When we are grateful for what we have and can share that with others, we keep all that positive energy flowing, so share and be thankful for the blessings. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
The Universe There is so much in this card and since I am still learning it, I will be brief, for now. From the Book of Thoth, Crowley says, "In the card itself there is consequently a glyph of the completion of the Great Work in its highest sense, exactly as the Atu (Key) of the Fool, symbolizes its beginning. The Fool is the negative issuing into manifestation; the Universe is that manifestation, its purpose accomplished, ready to return." What we started, the Great Work, in the Fool card - we have now completed here in The Universe. The seeds from long ago are now fully grown and ready to harvest. This is a great time to look at all we have accomplished and learned and how far we have come. Then to choose where we go next. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
I love it when cards are so timely - for today's full moon: The Moon The moonlight on the card illuminates a path through a lot of the things that can scare us, nightmares and the things that hide in shadow. Our job is to walk that path as bravely as we can. As Crowley says in the Book of Thoth, "It needs unconquerable courage to begin to tread this path." The path runs between twin figures of Anubis, guardian of the dead, and note that the scarab/water spider is carrying the sun on its back - letting us know that the long shadowy night will come to an end. Crowley also says something to maybe help us stay strong on this "Dark night of the soul," path, "How splendid is the Adventure!" (It's all about our attitude) One of my favorite tarot cards, the Moon - illuminates the darkness and helps guide us through intuition and the collective unconscious. Things that are normally hidden in the daylight are now brought to light for us to see and examine and sometimes those things are shadowy and we might want to hide them away but we can't. We need to have the courage to work with them because they are a part of us and the whole Great Work, is to reconcile all our parts into one whole. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Six of Swords This card looks just like what it means - the background of sharp and glassy looking points with the 6 swords resting on top and centering on the small Rose Cross. The symbolism, which is set in The Tree of Life, has Tiphareth bringing balance and clear-headedness to the Swords suit. Also, Mercury, an air planet, is located in the fixed air sign of Aquarius, in this card - giving it a keen mind and a fabulous ability to concentrate and ask enlightening questions - Much like a scientist! This card is about floating in the calmer waters of the mind especially after anxiety, confusion and stress. Seeing things more clearly and with a sharper focus that lets us find solutions to problems much more easily than before. We can ask better questions that supply better answers and this helps ease the tensions that too many confusing thoughts can stir up. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
Art This card reminds me of the book, The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker. In it, the antagonist is trying to learn and master "The Art," for his Great Work. Sound familiar? Crowley refers to The Great Work as a conscious process of spiritual growth. Symbolically, this card represents the consummation of the royal marriage in KeyVI - (Lovers). There is a lot of alchemical goodness going on here and Crowley says, "but this is only a crude symbol of the spiritual idea, which is the satisfaction of the desire of the incomplete element of one kind to satisfy its formula by assimilation of its equal and opposite." The title of the card, "Daughter of Reconcilers, the Bringer forth of Life," makes a lot of sense in that regard. We are the artist and this card is full of creation and transformation - reconciliation and the unity of opposites. How can you create your own great work/spiritual growth? From inventiveness and creativity and our own unique powers of transformation. This creative power takes us to our roots and connects us to the Absolute and to unite desire and reality. Queen of Disks "Persons signified by this card possess the finest of the quieter qualities. They are ambitious, but only in useful directions." BOT Water of Earth, this card embodies so many types of personalities. Strong, charismatic, sensitive, idealistic, intuitive and intelligent as well as ruthless and manipulative. Crowley says, "she thus represents the ambition of matter to take part in the Great Work of Creation." Watering the Earth is about finding our safe places, our homes, where we feel the most comfort and security. When we have that loving space, we can then share ourselves with much more ease because we aren't worried about our security. So find ways to create these safe havens where we can nourish ourselves and empower our lives. That is a very powerful magic. Letters From the Thoth Tarot
The Star Every man and woman is a star. (Crowley) Also, reach for the stars, follow your star, every life stands under its own star. The imagery is from The Book of the Law and very Thelemic in nature. The Star gives "unimaginable joys on earth: certainty, not faith, while in life, upon death; peace unutterable, rest, ecstasy; nor do I demand aught in sacrifice." BOTL This is about hopes and future dreams, desires made real. When we focus on what we want, when we can see the direction we need to head in, this card gives us the energy to make them happen. This is a swift and smooth moving energy that comes to us when we need the creative push and all we have to do is stay open to it. We have everything we need, we just need to believe it. |
