This plant is known for its tasty blossoms as well as elderberry syrup!  The tree has been used medicinally for awhile as well using the hollow stems to create wind instruments!  There have been some superstitions around this tree and was used in early magic and witchcraft too.  Each Elder was said to home a feminine guardian spirit or Elder Tree Mother and you should never cut one down or take her branches without asking and making an offering first.

It is given the oracle property of Ritual for the many traditions and rituals it has been used in.  Weddings, harvests and plantings, these rituals were an important part of the community and daily life structure.  This card asks us to think about how we can enrich our lives with  personal rituals.  Even a small moment to sit and journal or stillness before starting your day can help you relax, ease tension and give you a window of peace before going out into the world.
